Q: Who is a good candidate for hymenoplasty?

Q: How long does the surgical procedure take to perform?
A: The surgery lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Q: Is the surgery painful?
A: There will be some discomfort following the surgery, which is easily controlled by pain medication prescribed by Dr. Serrão
Q: Is there any scarring?
A: All patients heal differently, but there should be no scarring from a hymenoplasty.
Q: What is the downtime?
A: You should be recovered in a short amount of time, you can go back to work within a day or two depending upon the type of work performed.
Q: When can I resume my normal activities?
A: You should avoid any strenuous activities for 2-3 weeks following your surgery; avoid sexual intercourse for 6 weeks following the procedure or until your wedding night. Certain restrictions such as tub baths, swimming pools and tampon usage will be placed for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
Q: Are there any complications related to hymenoplasty?
A: As with all cosmetic surgeries, there are some risks involved. These risks include bleeding, infection, swelling, but they are rare.
