Mons Pubis Liposuction

Creating A More Appealing Mons Pubis Through Liposuction

Now that clothing styles are more revealing, women are becoming more conscious of how their pubic area, or mons, appears through the clothing. This is causing many women to seek treatment to reduce its size. Whether from a congenital cause or due to excessive weight gain, the pubic area can become fatty and make some women self-conscious and uncomfortable when wearing fitted clothing. Another cause could be from abdominoplasty or liposuction of the abdomen. Once the abdominal area is flatter, the pubic area simply sticks out more, causing a protruding mons. Fortunately, it can be treated with liposuction to improve its shape and size.

Liposuction of the mons pubis is a relatively straightforward procedure that can produce some dramatic results. The only caveat is that the skin should have good elasticity, because liposuction of the mons pubis can make loose skin even looser once the fat is removed. If the pubic area was big enough to stretch out the skin, the skin will droop, and liposuction won’t be enough. In this case, a monsplasty, or pubic lift, is a better option. This procedure removes extra skin and excess fat, reducing the bulging area and providing a lift as well.

Are You A Candidate for Mons Liposuction?

For women who find the puffy, protruding mons area disconcerting, liposuction can be the procedure of choice. Good candidates for mons pubis reduction include patients who have:

  • Unwanted fullness or protruding of the mons.
  • Focal overhanging the mons area.
  • Excess skin of the mons.
  • Excess drooping of the mons.

You should also be in good health, and have good skin elasticity. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for mons pubis liposuction is to schedule a consultation with Dr.Serrao.

What Can You Expect With Mons Pubis Liposuction

The process begins with an initial consultation with Dr. Serrao. You will have an opportunity to discuss your goals and expectations about the liposuction procedure with the doctor, and ask any relevant questions you may have.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Serrao will:

  • Review your medical history and any medications you are taking
  • Discuss the procedure and any related procedures
  • Provide recommendations based on your needs and goals

Dr. Serrao will listen to your needs, expectations and your desired outcome from the liposuction. You will tour our state-of-the-art accredited surgical center and you will also be able to meet with our caring staff that will be part of your team.

How the Procedure is Performed?

Liposuction is done either under local tumescent anesthesia or with intravenous sedation.  Dr. Serrao will discuss this with you and recommend what is best for your individual situation.

One small incision is made, and will not even require a suture for closure. For liposuction of the mons, the incision are usually hidden in the groin crease. A small cannula is inserted into the incision, and fat is suctioned out.

After your surgery a drainage pad will be placed under a compression garment.  After you are recovered from your surgery you will be able to go home stay in our overnight facility.  Private duty nursing is available to you if you desire full service post-operative care.

You will see Dr. Serrao the day after your surgery and at specified intervals during the weeks following your surgery. This is done so that the doctor can personally monitor your recovery process, and to ensure that you have the best results possible.

The Recovery Process

Most patients return to work a few days after the surgery.  There will be some swelling and probable bruising.  The discomfort will be controlled by the pain medication prescribed by Dr. Serrao.  Swelling usually improves over the next 4 to 6 weeks, but it may take several months to completely resolve. You should avoid strenuous exercise or activity for 6 weeks following your surgery. Patients wear a support or compression garment for 2 to 6 weeks following the procedure.
